I think Jack's point was that many 1G and 10G "links" are really just  
MPLS tunnels through someone else's backbone.

And even if not, they are certainly sharing the same ADMs, fibers,  
regen huts, etc.

"Shared infrastructure" has taken on a whole new meaning.
