ATM SVC rerouting time

In the network I work with, SVC re-routes are near instantaneous... 
If I break a link on purpose, I'm hard pressed to type in the command
fast enough to see if the svc is back up and it's already re-routed...

4-6 switches should be the same..  What kind of switches are we
talking about here?
