IME, releasing the magic smoke from $device is not considered normal
unlesss the device intentionally uses processes like internal
combustion.

Actually, Mayor Blumberg just told CNN that the smoke being seen at the
ConEd plant is normal for this situation.  It is also being reported
that
this whole thing started in Ottawa, or an overload of the Niagra-Mowhak
power grid.
