Well, lets say you have a page with 3 images. Two logos for whatever site
your visiting, and one for an add banner. If those two logos are on menu
bars like whats popular now a days, and the add image is deeper in the
body of the page, it will be downloaded last. If the images are of decent
size, and the person isnt on a isdn or greater link, there is a higher
likelihood of this person stopping the download. And when this person
stops the download, whoever paid for that add space just wasted money.

To me it doesnt really matter, cause i cant remember the last time i
followed, or even took a second glace at an add banner. But telling somone
whos paying hundreds of thousands of dollars on add space, even at most
10-20% more of the people who started downloading the image didnt view
it.. thats makes it a little more important. :)
