I assume you talk about the RIPE Routing Registry.
This is not prototype but a production service.

This supports online queries and not online updates.
We have working code for online updates but it is not deployed 
because of unresolved authorisation and authentication issues and 
the fact that mail works quickly wnough for our customers.
