CALL FOR COLLABORATION WITH THE U.S. CONDENSED MATTER PHYSICISTS

A group of Russian scientists is applying to interested U.S. colleagues
working in the area of Condensed Matter Physics to join us to establish
collaborative research project of common interest. Our research team
consists of two clusters, one of them is based on Institute of Chemical
Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow) and other is working in
Volgograd State University (Volgograd). The mainstream of our research
activities is in the area of Tunneling Processes in Condensed Matter and
Chemical Physics. Now we develop the Theory of Tunneling Transfer of
Electrons and Heavy Particles especially in applications to Scanning
Tunneling Microscopy. Our recent most important accomplishments seem to be
the elaboration of many-electron approach in state-of-the-art surface
electronic structure calculations and application of this ideology to
promote the theoretical basis of surface characterization by STM. All of
these advances rely heavily on extensive usage of computer simulations.

Now we are very much interested in reinforcement of our programs in
Theoretical and Computational Surface Science via participation in
international collaborative research activities. Moreover, we have heard
about the great action undertaken by NAS/NRC & NSF in the frame of
COLLABORATION IN BASIC SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (COBASE) PROGRAM to support
these collaborative activities. We would be very glad to start to work
with our colleagues not only in the theoretical area but also with
experimental groups, because it would be quite favorable for us to combine
our theoretical advances with the goals and needs of experimentalists.
