Hi. If you use any of the NSFNET-related reports on nic.merit.edu,
we'd really appreciate hearing any comments you may have. Thanks
to those who've responded so far to our survey. And keep those
replies coming! Also, please feel free to help us out by forwarding
this survey to anyone you know who may use the reports but who may
not be on the regional-techs or nwg list. Thanks again.

Subject: report usage survey

Hi all.

As part of the NSFNET semi-weekly configuration process, Merit produces
a collection of reports summarizing network configuration information.
These reports are:

     ans_core.now as-as.now as-gw.now as-site.now country.now
     gate-gw.now net-comp.now net-ter.now net-net.now netcount.now
     non-us.now nss-as.now nss-gw.now

A brief description of each report appears at the end of this survey.

We are currently re-assessing what reports we generate and would like
to determine exactly which reports are the most useful to our customers. Also,
customers have requested other reports that we do not now produce. In order
to better serve the network community with these reports, we ask you to
complete the following survey. Please respond to report-survey at merit.edu by
June 30, 1993. We hope that some ideas can be discussed informally
at the upcoming Regional Tech's meeting in Reston.

Please note that the deployment of CIDR is going to necessitate several
report changes. For instance, perhaps all occurrences of network numbers
will need to be replaced with aggregate number/net mask pairs. Comments
regarding these issues would be most welcome.

(1) Which, if any, of the above reports do you use?

(2) Of the reports you use, are there fields that you ignore and that therefore
    could be removed?

(3) How often do you use these reports?

(4) Are our reports critical to your operations?

(5) Please provide a brief description of how you use these reports.

(6) Are you aware of the public Merit Policy Routing Database clients?
(They can be found with documentation on merit.edu:/pub/src/prdbshow.tar.Z)

(7) What information would you like us to provide, either through a client
or a report, which we do not currently provide? Is there an existing
report which would meet your need if additional fields were added?

(8) Additional comments

Individual responses to this survey will remain confidential.

Thank you for your time and thoughts.

Sincerely,

Merit/NSFNET staff,
Merit Network, Inc.
