My guess is that most of it will become synthetic, generated programmatically from local primitives via algorithmic instructions, much in the way that multiplayer 3D FPS games handle such things today. 

There'll be a significant round of standards wars and development of capture systems (e.g., 'cameras', postproduction software, and so forth) which will need to happen, but I think it's inevitable.  Telepresence-type systems will probably be the first to implement this sort of thing.
