Old news. What may be more interesting is that some telecomunications
companies do something along this line as well. What Network Solutions
was doing was a sort of wild card resolution. If the host or domain
name did not have a record, it would resolve it to a web site. The
other solutions tend to be to intercept errors from DNS servers, and
change those to resolve to web sites, like Yahoo, who pay for the service.
Either way, I think it's a poor choice.
I doubt that it's a valid NANOG topic, as it really doesn't have
anything to do with "operating a large provider network"... It does
clearly piss customers of telecoms off when it happens.
